Establishing systems engineering in company organisation

Complex technical systems and increasing customer requirements: Systems engineering (SE) offers companies - including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - tools and approaches to master these challenges and remain competitive in the future. Especially when systems engineering is designed holistically and integrated into the company organisation. The SE4OWL project is working on how this organisational and cultural change can succeed. 

The aim of SE4OWL is to identify ways in which systems engineering can be implemented holistically and sustainably in the organisation beyond individual pilot projects.

Together with three user companies from industry, an SE consultancy and an SE tool provider, Fraunhofer IEM is developing a set of instruments with guidelines for the holistic introduction and design of systems engineering. The focus is on the user-friendliness of the SE tools and methods developed in order to ensure broad acceptance of these approaches in the companies. Using a demonstrator - a model SE company - companies are to be given an exemplary insight into best practices, SE methods and SE processes. At the same time, the aim is to show the added value that the introduction and establishment of systems engineering can bring to an organisation.
