The Heinz Nixdorf Institute

The Heinz Nixdorf Institute is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Paderborn. Born out of the dedication of Heinz Nixdorf, its aim is to develop intelligent technical systems. The disciplines of computer science and engineering converge as these systems are developed. Innovative approaches and techniques are used to develop bold conceptual designs for intelligent technical systems that are adaptable and robust and anticipatory and have a user-friendly design. This generates impetus for intelligent technical systems and corresponding services that will serve the global markets of tomorrow.

As a leading research institute, the Heinz Nixdorf Institute provides vital impetus for practical applications. The scientists also identify tomorrow’s issues at an early stage and work to solve them. The institute is intensively involved in the teaching and vocational training of undergraduates and doctoral students in order to impart the necessary technical, methodological and social skills to the next generation of employees. Around 20 young researchers gain their doctorates there every year. The research work of the nine professors and a total of 150 employees is geared towards the program “Dynamics, Mobility, Networking: A New School of Design for the Engineering Systems of Tomorrow.”
